Editorial

The corridors are deserted, the class photographs have been taken, tears shed, and memories made. The golden poster on the department board invites us to bid farewell, rather sooner than we're ready for it. Goodbyes are always difficult, but how do you show a place and its people how much they've changed your life, in a few hours?

This is one way.

This issue is rather a special one for us as it marks the end of a wonderful year and a wonderful journey. For some of us on the ed board, this is the last time we'll ever work on The Jabberwock, and after two years of sweat, blood and toil - and, yes, fulfilment and delight too - this is undoubtedly going to leave a huge blank in our lives. From its birth in 2008, we've seen it grow and come to mean something to all of us- something that embodied the department and brought it together, something that took the achievements of the department to the world outside it. We thank you for being patient with us, and for overlooking our oversights.

Like a certain Mr. Dickens said, “it’s been the best of times…it’s been the worst of times.” This department has given us a few of the best moments in our lives-be it the joy of finding some hidden meaning to some sentence or the sheer rupture at a free class. Like all things in life that bring in joy, our days here have also brought in their share of distressing times…like project deadlines, surprise quizzes and incomprehensible chapters. But most distressing of all times is this-when we have to leave all these behind. It is time to look back at this corridor on which the sun rays fall obliquely, and try and take in with a breath, as much of it as we can. And also, leave behind our shadowy fingerprints on the walls and the snatches of old chats in the air around. We leave behind our smiles so that they may stay here forever-like words on old dog-eared pages, like the musty smell fused with the pages of every story this department has to tell.

One roller coaster ride has just got over and it’s time for another one; while some may keep worrying whether they got their money’s worth, some will keep looking for a safe place to keep their tickets. Here’s to you Class of 2010-lovely ladies who are meant to sit on the first seat and scream their way into completing one ride after another. So this issue goes out to all the third years-you will be missed. And all our love to the rest of you.
That’s it folks!
